On Saturday, 23 June 2018, twelve members of the Moo Pa (Wild Boar) football team, aged 11–16, and their coach, aged 25, went into the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand, and became trapped deep inside when the entrance was flooded by a sudden downpour. A search was immediately commenced when a ranger of the National Park in Chiang Rai alerted authorities of the missing boys after seeing their unclaimed belongings at the cave entrance. After struggles through narrow passages and muddy waters, divers discovered the missing people, all alive, on an elevated rock about 4 km (2.5 mi) from the cave mouth, on 2 July 2018, 10 pm local time. To leave the cave, they may need to learn to dive or wait months for the flooding to recede. More than 1,000 people have been involved in the rescue operation, including teams from the Thai Navy SEALs, the UK, China, Myanmar, Laos, Australia, Sweden, and the United States.
